WSET Level 1 Award in Wines (QCF)

This course provides an introduction to wine, grape varieties, food & wine pairing and guides candidates through Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT 1). It is aimed at those wanting a career in the wine & spirit/hospitality industry, first time employees in the wine trade and the wine enthusiast. It offers a straight forward introduction to wine that boost knowledge and confidence and gives successful candidates an industry recognised foundation level qualification. Day Release 09.00 – 17.00 Furleigh Estate Vineyard, Bridport
 

Knowledge

No previous knowledge is required.
 

Exam

The course is examined with a 45 minutes multiple choice paper consisting of 30 questions. The pass mark is 70% and the exam takes place in the last session of the course. The qualification is accredited at Level 1 in the UK National Qualification Framework

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines & Spirits (QCF)

This course provides learning on major grape varieties, wine regions of the world, food & wine pairing, sparkling wines, fortified wines, principle varieties of spirits and guides candidates through the Level 2 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT 2). It is aimed at those working within the wine and spirit/hospitality industry and interested wine enthusiasts. It will provide an excellent base of wine and spirit knowledge and give successful candidates an industry recognised intermediate level qualification. Study Options

Day Release, 3 days 09.00 – 17.00 Furleigh Estate Vineyard, Bridport

It is strongly recommend that in excess of 20 hours of personal study time be allocated to WSET Level 2
 

Knowledge

No previous knowledge is required but WSET Level 2 is a natural progression from WSET Level 1.
 

Exam

The course is examined with a 60 minute multiple choice paper consisting of 50 questions. The pass mark is 55% and the exam takes place in the last session of the course. The qualification is accredited at Level 2 in the UK National Qualification Framework.
 

Course Synopsis

Wine tasting, factor influencing types and styles of wine, key white grape varieties, key black grape varieties, key wine producing areas, food & wine pairing, wine storage and service, labelling terms, sparkling wines, sweet wines, fortified wines, spirits and liqueurs.

WSET Level 3 Award in Wines & Spirits (QCF)

This course is designed for those wishing to gain an in depth knowledge of wines and spirits. Candidates will acquire a thorough understanding of factors influencing the style, quality and price of wine and develop analytical tasting skills through the Level 3 systematic approach to tasting wine (SAT 3). The course is aimed at those in a managing or supervisory position in the wine and spirit/hospitality industry or amateur wine connoisseurs. It will provide high level training in wines and spirits and will give successful candidates an industry recognised advanced level qualification. Please see the WSET Level 3 specification here.
 

Study Options

Day Release, 6 days 09.00 – 17.00 Furleigh Estate Vineyard, Bridport

It is strongly recommended that students should allocate in excess of 50 hours of personal study time to WSET Level 2.
 

Knowledge

WSET Level 2 Award in Wines & Spirits is required.
 

Exam

The course is examined in 2 parts. A combined theory paper of a 50 questions multiple choice section with five question short answer written question and a blind tasting of 2 wines. The pass mark is 55% and the exam takes place in the last session of the course. The qualification is accredited at Level 3in the UK National Qualification Framework.
